Recovery Guides
Long-form guides written and reviewed by our clinical team, for people in recovery and the people who love them. No jargon, no judgment, and no pretending this is easy.
Medically reviewed by Danielle Visone, Mental Health Counselor and Clinical Director at New Wave Recovery Center. This guide is for education and support; it is not a substitute for personalized care.
Guidance You Can Actually Use
Most of what gets written about addiction is either clinical enough to be unreadable or vague enough to be useless. These guides are our attempt at the thing in between: real explanations of the ideas that come up again and again in treatment, written the way we would explain them to you in the room.
Every guide is written with our clinicians and reviewed before it goes up. They are here to support the work, not replace it. If something in one of them lands hard, that is worth talking to someone about, and you can call us any time.
Our Guides
What Is Healthy Detachment? A five-chapter guide on one of the most misunderstood ideas in recovery: what detachment actually means, why addiction and attachment are so tangled together, how to detach from a specific person, how to do it with love rather than anger, and how to tell a healthy boundary apart from going numb.
What Is Healthy Detachment?

About Our Guides
Want to talk to a real person? Call us, someone in recovery will answer.
Who writes these guides?
They are written with our clinical team and reviewed by Danielle Visone, our Mental Health Counselor and Clinical Director, before publication.
Are these a substitute for treatment?
No. They are education and support. If you are struggling, call us and talk to someone in recovery, because reading about it is not the same as being helped through it.
Can I share them with my family?
Please do. Several of these are written as much for the people around you as for you.
Care that feels different
We were founded by people in long-term recovery, so the way we treat you comes from having been where you are. That shows up in everything we do.
Founded by people in recovery
When you call New Wave, you talk to someone who has walked this path, not a call center. This is personal for us.
The same therapist throughout
You keep your private therapist as you move between levels of care, so your progress is never interrupted and you never start over.
Holistic care, every day
Reiki, yoga, sound healing, and mindfulness are woven into daily treatment alongside evidence-based therapy, not offered once in a while.
In-Network Coverage Varies by Plan. Let's See If Yours Is a Match
We’ll verify your benefits and have an honest conversation about whether our program is the best match for your stage of recovery. And if we’re not the right fit for your journey, we won’t leave you guessing. We’ll help you find the place that is. Because we’ve been where you are, our only goal is getting you to the care that works.
Talk It Through With Someone
If something here hits close to home, you do not have to work it out alone. Call and you will talk to someone who has been where you are.
